The Anchorage Mayor Marathon's race will start at the ConocoPhillips Soccer Stadium at Kincaid Park. Enjoy a mile long downhill before reaching the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. The course will continue north on the Coastal Trail along beautiful Cook Inlet for 10 miles before reaching Westchester Lagoon.
The course will then follow the Lagoon east (towards the mountains) along the Chester Creek Trail to Goose Lake and the University of Alaska Anchorage campus (home to race presenter ConocoPhillips’ Integrated Science Building). Continuing east, the course will travel across a bridge over Tudor Road near the Alaska Native Medical Center campus.
Traveling east-northeast runners will enter the beautiful forested trail system of Far North Bicentennial Park. This park is the largest park in Anchorage, with over 100 miles of multi-use trails and access to Chugach State Park. Crossing bridges and meandering the trail system, making a lollipop configuration, runners will return back along Campbell Creek, around the north side of Goose Lake and back on to the Chester Creek Trail.
Upon reaching Westchester Lagoon, this time the course will veer north through downtown Anchorage’s oldest neighborhood and finish at the Delaney Park Strip (once used as the city's first aircraft runway for Anchorage in the early 1920's).
The race is run on pedestrian pathways and forested trails until the final half mile, where the course runs through an urban Anchorage neighborhood.
This race is certified by USA Track and Field and is recognized by the Boston Marathon as a qualifying event.
